We are seeking an experienced Machinist by trade for our facility in Monroe, NC. In this unique position, you will work individually as well as with team members to make sonic testing material for the Sonic department. This is a crucial part of the job as it will detect imperfections in the materials before the Sonic Inspection process begins ensuring high-valued materials used for items such as helicopters, airplanes, submarines, etc are being delivered to our customers with the highest quality and attention to detail.
This is a day shift position from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. Training will take placeon the same shift.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Perform a variety of machinist operations requiring the planning, layout, machining and verifying standards for use in ultrasonic testing.
Work from drawings and sketches to execute exact setups. Perform precision milling, drilling, and EDM burning with close tolerances.
Setup and operate milling machine, precision lathe, precision drill press, EDM machine and shadowgraph. Perform propane soldering with brass rod.
Use precision measuring instruments including vernier height gauge, micrometer, depth gauge, micrometer caliper, and dial indicator.
Use setup and layout devices such as 90-degree angle plate, precision V-blocks, parallels, surface plate, gauge blocks, and various clamps.
Machine various tools used in connection with EDM machine. Machine v-notches to obtain precision depth notch then replicate and measure the notch using shadowgraph.
Operate material handling equipment to lift and position heavier workpieces.
Detect and report defective materials, equipment operating improperly, personal mistakes, and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
Fill out and maintain record keeping documentation for audits.
Machine parts for other maintenance departments and production material
Perform daily responsibilities with the use of hand tools, bandsaws, belt sanders, torch, and welding equipment
NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Perform other duties as directed by supervisor. Maintain cleanliness of work areas and equipment. Follow all safety regulations.
Requirements
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to perform various mathematical calculations including fractions and decimals.
Operate the maintenance computer to maintain records, work history and inventory of parts.
Use meters, gauges, or other types of test equipment to facilitate quality and timely repairs.
Good communication with supervisors and other department leaders through email and verbally
REQUIREMENTS:
General high school diploma.
Must be able to maintain IME certification by fulfilling all requirements
Minimum 2 years' experience operating milling machine and precision lathes
